About Us

History

Le Nez du Vin was launched in 1981. Over the past four decades, thousands of wine lovers, sommeliers and professionals from around the world have benefited from Lenoir’s educational tools.

Jean Lenoir, the founder of Éditions, was born into a family of winemakers in Burgundy and often jokes that he learned to taste while learning to walk.

In 1979, he earned a professional diploma in oenology from the University of Dijon and began using a briefcase of 120 aromas commonly found in wines to teach introductory oenology courses throughout France. Swiss artist Daniel Spoeri suggested he turn his boxes into a book, which inspired him to create Le Nez du Vin, and his friend Olivier Baussan, founder of L’Occitane, guided him through the initial stages of creating the kits.

“My goal was to awaken the necessary curiosity about smells in my readers and to help them recognize the aromas contained in wine,” says Lenoir when commenting on his invention.
